Who is Corgiroonies?

Corgiroonies is a small, passionate, and quality-driven home-based breeder of Welsh Corgi Cardigans, located in Middelfart on West Funen. The kennel is run by me, Fiemaria, with my husband Mikkel cheering from the sidelines. Our goal is to breed healthy, mentally stable, and breed-typical Cardigans that thrive just as well in an active family life as they do in the show ring.

My interest in dogs goes far back. I grew up with Cairn Terriers and Coton de Tuléars, and my husband grew up with Bernese Mountain Dogs.

In 2014, I got my very first dog of my own – Olly, a long-haired Welsh Corgi Cardigan. He became my first encounter with the breed’s intelligence, independence, and big personality – and the beginning of a lifelong fascination.

That same year, I began my studies with canine behavior specialist Rie Ravn, where in 2015 I wrote my semester project on behavior and training in the Welsh Corgi Cardigan.

This laid the foundation for my professional approach to dogs: understanding behavior through insight, patience, and respect.

corgiroonies [ˈkɔːɡi-ruːniz]

The name Corgiroonies was born from a wish to create something warm, personal, and instantly recognizable – a name with both charm and soul. The word “Roonies” is a playful, affectionate nickname that, for us, symbolizes joy, togetherness, and the close bond between dog and owner. When we say Corgiroonies, we’re not just thinking of our kennel, but of a lifestyle – a way of living with dogs where respect, responsibility, and love are the foundation.

From passion to profession

In 2023, Jytte moved in with us. She was originally placed in a guardian home, but it quickly became clear that we shared the same values and dreams as her breeder. We took her over later that year – and now, with two Corgis in the house, it became the beginning of what is today Corgiroonies.

After a long break from the dog show world, I returned in 2023 – this time with a clear direction and an ambition to contribute to the breed with knowledge, ethics, and dedication.

To strengthen my professional foundation, I completed the Danish Kennel Club’s breeder education in 2024, and in January 2025, I became officially registered as a DKK breeder. A few months later – in October 2025 – the kennel name Corgiroonies was approved by both the Danish Kennel Club and the FCI.

Alongside this, I have completed a number of courses and further education programs, including:

  • Your Dog, Your Mirror by Iben Marianne Krarup
  • Dog Language – Understanding Your Dog’s Signals with Tanja Lørup, Et Godt Hundeliv
  • Nutrition and Feeding Science with veterinarian Anett Weber & Lene Friss, RigtigHundemad.dk
  • Canine Anatomy and Physiology with Lene Jacobsen

Life with shows

We spend a lot of time with our dogs – through obedience work, tracking training, and, most of all, dog shows. For us, dog shows are not just a competition, but a way to refine our eye, grow professionally, and connect with others who share the same passion.

We love spending time abroad and have shown our dogs in Norway, Sweden, Poland, Luxembourg, Italy, and Romania – in addition to Denmark, of course.

Here, we have the opportunity to network with other kennels, exchange experiences, build friendships, and follow the breed’s development internationally. At the same time, it gives us an invaluable chance to evaluate future breeding partners, strengthen our professional knowledge, and represent our kennel with pride.
